The Aqua for All WASH Finance Ethiopia Project Matching Grant Agreement between Dire Dawa Microfinance Institution (DMFI) and Fair & Sustainable Consulting was officially signed today.
The signing ceremony was held at Damu Hotel and brought together teams from Aqua for All, Fair & Sustainable Consulting, and the Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions (AEMFI). The event was also attended by the Chief Executive Officers of five (5) Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), including DMFI, which have been actively engaged in the WASH Pilot Project, as well as other relevant stakeholders.
During the ceremony, DMFI’s strong commitment and proactive engagement in promoting the WASH Pilot Project were highly appreciated by the leadership of Aqua for All, Fair & Sustainable Consulting, and AEMFI. Their remarks emphasized DMFI’s role in expanding access to sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) financing solutions.
It was further disclosed that a revolving credit facility totaling 2 million Euros will be availed to the five MFIs that demonstrated strong performance and invested their own resources during the pilot phase of the project. This facility is expected to be made available within the coming months.
In addition to the revolving credit facility, DMFI secured a matching grant of 37,500 Euros, which will support the scaling up of its WASH finance activities and strengthen its continued participation in the project.
This agreement represents a significant step toward enhancing inclusive and sustainable WASH financing in Ethiopia through strong partnerships among development organizations, financial institutions, and sector stakeholders.
